 File — Box: 2
Identifier: SC045 02/37

Scope and Contents

Folder contains materials related to the Indian Library Services Project grant (ILSP). Folder contains many grant-related documents, such as “The San Diego County Library and San Diego County Indian Libraries: Proposal for Cooperation.” There are also two separate applications for the ILSP: “California State Library: Library Services and Construction Act,” project titles, "“Indian Library Services Project” and “Indian Library Services Project II.” The first project's application was subjtted for the 1987-1988 fiscal year, and the second project's application was submitted for the 1988-1989 fiscal year. Both projects were submitted through the San Diego County Library. Folder also contains grant reports about the ILSP, such as “California State Library: Library Services and Construction Act: Quarterly Report Narrative” submitted in 1988 during the project's fourth quarter; and “California State Library: “Library Services and Construction Act: Final Summary Report," which appears to be a report from grant activities from October 1, 1987 to September 30, 1989.

Folder also contains flyers from the San Diego County Library and Barona Tribal Hall about the ILSP and its activities and workshops. Karen Brown and Victor Peralta were involved in the Barona Tribal Hall workshop.

Materials for another grant, the County-wide Libraries and the urban Indian Community (CLIC), is also present in this folder. These materials include: an award letter from Gary E. Strong (California State Library) to Catherine Lucas (San Diego County Library), congratulating her on being approved for funding for the CLIC grant project. The letter includes the grant application, award letter, and budget.

Folder also includes the “California State Library: Library Services and Construction Act," a final summary report for the CLIC grant.

Folder also includes documents relating to the establishment of tribal libraries at Barona, Cuyapaipe, La Posta, Manzanita, and Viejas. Documents include handwritten notes (from Biggs?) regarding establishing tribal libraries and ILSP in these libraries, as well as a flyer from Manzanita Band of Mission Indians inviting interested persons to a training session at their library.

Folder also contains miscellaneous documents, such as the Spring/Summer 1985 issue of American Indians Libraries Newsletter; an email from Don Macnaughtan (Lane Community College Library) to Biggs regarding the establishment of the Coquille Tribal Library; and a memorandum from the California State Library, from their recent meeting in 1986.
