Scope and Contents

Folder contains an executive briefing presentation for the Pre-Enrolled Automated Lane (PAL) given on Febuary 1, 1999. The talking points include the importance of having a border checkpoint, a description of the PAL concept, the PAL plan for construction and necesary funds, and the security requirements with drivers particpipating in the PAL plan. The briefing also includes potential plans to deal with the issue of not having the proper transponder necesary to utilize the PAL to it's full idea, including the field operations reccommendation. The briefing ends with a list of potential issues expected as a result of implementing the PAL system at the border checkpoint. Also included in the folder is a letter written to Congressman Christopher Cox from Congressman Packard about the closing of the PAL at the checkpoint, as well as news clippings with the public voicing their problems and opinions with the checkpoint system.

This collection is open for research. The Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room is accessible by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm. Materials requested over the weekend will be available on the following Tuesday at the earliest.
