Scope and Contents

Folder contains letters written by a variety of politicians and city officials (including Congressman Packard) to other officials, about important issues and interest groups at the moment. Key issues and groups include the EPA; WIC (CA Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children); UPI (USS-Posco Industries); SLIAG (State Legalization Impact Assistance Grants Program); HERID (High Energy Railgun Integration Demonstration Program); SDIO (Strategic Defense Initiative Organization; Camp Pendelton; the DoD; agriculture; transportation; international trade; foreign and local aid; United Nations; education; human rights; U.S Department of Agriculture; drought; taxes; budget appropriations; California's economic development; drug trade; NASA; DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service); and disaster relief. Also included is a concurrent resolution given by the House of Representatives, highlighting the issue of Federal mandates imposed on States that need to be rescinded unless they are accompanied by sufficient funds to pay for them.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is open for research. The Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room is accessible by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm. Final requests for materials must be made one hour prior to closing. Please submit requests for archival materials at least 24 hours in advance of desired appointment. Materials requested over the weekend will be available on the following Tuesday at the earliest.
