Scope and Contents

Folder contains letters from Representative Ron Packard, cosigned by fellow Senators and House Representatives, in support of or concern about a variety of international issues. These letters were sent to President Ronald Reagan, Secretary of State, Mikhail Gorbachev (General Secretary of the Soviet Union), and Basil Arthur (Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament). Topics addressed U.S. and Soviet relations, the dangers Jews face in the Soviet Union, the hijacking of the Achille Lauro, the Caribbean Basin Initiative, and access to New Zealand’s ports.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is open for research. The Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room is accessible by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm. Final requests for materials must be made one hour prior to closing. Please submit requests for archival materials at least 24 hours in advance of desired appointment. Materials requested over the weekend will be available on the following Tuesday at the earliest.
