Scope and Contents

The Tomme Arthur collection contains twelve (12) envelopes containing photographs relating to Arthur's brewing activities in the San Diego region, as well as two programs from the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. Some envelopes also contained 35mm film negatives - those have been removed to a separate folder.

Conditions Governing Access

The collection is open for research. Please contact Special Collections in advance to request access. Gloves must be used when handling photographs.

The Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room is accessible by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm. Final requests for materials must be made one hour prior to closing. Please submit requests for archival materials at least 24 hours in advance of desired appointment. Materials requested over the weekend will be available on the following Tuesday at the earliest. Please note that Special Collections and University Archives observes all campus holiday closures as noted in the Library Calendar. For more information, please send an email to archives@csusm.edu.

Biographical / Historical

Tomme Arthur is co-founder and Chief Operating Owner of Lost Abbey Brewing in San Marcos, CA specializing in Belgian beer styles. His professional brewing career began at the short-lived La Cerveceria la Cruda (San Diego, CA.) He moved to led to Pizza Port (Solana Beach, CA.) to lead brewing operations before opening Lost Abbey Brewing (2006) in the original Stone Brewing location in San Marcos. He is a partner in Port Brewing which includes Pizza Port Brewing, Lost Abbey Brewing, and produces the Hop Concept, Tiny Bubbles and Kharisma (hard tea) product lines. Throughout his career, his beers have won numerous awards. His contributions to the industry have been recognized with awards including the Brewers Association's Russell Scherer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing (2018) and the inaugural San Diego Beer News Vanguard Brewer award (2022.) The collection contains twelve (12) envelopes containing photographs relating to Arthur's brewing activities in the San Diego region, as well as two programs from the San Diego Strong Ale Festival.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged to the folder level. Some folders make up a distinct file in cases where there were more photographic prints than would fit safely in an envelope. Original order and description was used in arranging and devising file titles.

Collection consists of one box and one folder. Box 1 is located in KEL 1006, 19.a.3. One letter-sized folder is located in small manuscripts.

Condition Description

The collection materials are in good physical condition. Gloves are needed for handling photographs. Collection was reenveloped.
